Jack Beers is one of life’s true American heroes, recently acknowledged by Mayor Bloomberg.  He's our first official USA Zimmer.

Never one to run from his fears, and never giving up. Jack, now 98 (in 2008), was New York City's Strongest Boy, helped build Radio City Music Hall, helped shorten WW2, put the spire on top of the Empire State Building, trained show dogs, and acted in over 200 films including "Tootsie" alongside Dustin Hoffman, 7 Woody Allen films, and many more.

As a young lad, Jack was ever the entertainer, starting life doing feats of

strength in Coney Island and NYC, then found a love for engineering and

landed a job as a welder of steel structures. He became a self-taught

structural engineer, and ended up having a strong influence in the Manhattan

Project.  Jack's influence can be seen in many of New Yorks finest

buildings, including Lincoln Center, The Museum of Modern Art, and many

more.

Jack (97, in New York City) sings lead vocals alongside Grace Cook (83, in London) on the classic song ‘When You're Smiling’.  An unforgettable duet. It's a hot rocking version backed by the NYC band Wax Machine

(www.myspace.com/waxmachine), with Stalley doing the rap!  This young, accomplished African-American rap artist just had to befriend Jack and get in on his track.

Jack's story is a truly remarkable Zimmer story.  He had the most wonderful award-winning documentary made about his life by acclaimed documentary maker David Wachs. For More information on the documentary "Holes In My Shoes"

(www.holesinmyshoes.com). To see clips from the film visit the trailers on the website, and also on YouTube where you can see Jack ripping a telephone book into 4 pieces at 94, and also singing from the top of the Empire State

Building.  We will be adding the DVD to our online store soon.  For now you can go to the movie site.

"Jack Beers is as legendary a New York landmark as the Empire State Building and no less dynamic a force."  Jake Jacobson – Westwood One/CBS Radio
